Terzo Valico dei Giovi: Castagnola-Vallemme Section Completed
On Site Stories - Terzo Valico: completata la Tratta Castagnola Vallemme
: the Castagnola-Vallemme section has been completed. With the breakthrough of the final diaphragm wall on the second track, excavation works on one of the most complex segments of the entire railway line are now complete.
A decisive step forward for a strategic infrastructure project bringing Italy closer to Europe: over 83 km of tunnels have now been excavated out of the approximately 86.9 km planned along the route — equal to 96% of the total tunnel works for the project.
An engineering challenge across the Ligurian Apennines: the completed section extends for approximately 2.8 km on each track and was carried out under highly challenging geological and operational conditions.
Technology and safety: to overcome the geological complexities of the section, work was carried out simultaneously on four parallel excavation fronts, using advanced technologies and strict safety protocols.
